"The scope of transport operations for the London 2012 Games was the most demanding the nation’s transport network has ever had to meet and the response of the UK transport industry was outstanding. Together it successfully delivered the best public transport Games ever.
As an industry we learned a great deal about how to plan, build and operate a transport network able to meet the unprecedented logistical challenge the Games presented.
The challenge now is to continue to work together to capture and build on what we have learned and achieved.
We now need to ensure that lessons are learnt and, more importantly, shared across industry, new bid cities, wider mega event arenas and Government to build on what was a fantastic summer for transport across Great Britain."

The best public transport games ever
Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic
RideLondon started in 2013 as a legacy event of the London 2012 Olympics, is at the centre of a weekend of cycling events in the capital, which involves more than 100,000 people each year.
On Saturday, more than 70,000 people, many of them children, pedal along a 10-mile route in central London closed to motor traffic. The weekend also involves BMX and handcycle events and elite men’s and women’s road races, which have the top-tier status of world tour events.
On Sunday, 24,000 riders take on on the 100-mile route on roads closed to traffic through London, out to Surrey and back again, with about 4,000 tackling a 46-mile version.
Britain’s greatest one-day bike race sees 150 of the world’s top pro cyclists take on a 200km route through London and Surrey.
