Tricia Hayes, director general for roads, devolution and motoring at the DfT, was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath. Ms Hayes took over the job in 2016 and was tasked with a new, specific devolution brief. She is honoured after overseeing the creation of sub-national transport bodies, which now cover most of the country and provide a new foundation for regional strategies. A very personable character, she often speaks at industry events and has brought a down to earth, open approach to her work with local officers and professional bodies. She once told Transport Network that one of the benefits of forming an STB is it 'keeps government honest', allowing local government in a region to hold Whitehall to account on its local transport plans.
